Hi. I just pulled a video clip off off a DVR used for closed circuit cameras. I just have one camera in test mode and pulled a 3-4 minute clip to USB.

I took it to my computer and none of my video programs will play it. I need to find out if it's just a codec i'm missing or is there something wrong with the file itself.

would anyone be willing to take a look at the file? it's about 2.3M. i can email it as necessary..

    thanks

    Chris

If the extension is hidden start - > control panel -> folder options ->view ->uncheck " hide extension for known file types then click ok. See if the extension becomes visible.

i just tried to open using virtualdub, virtualdobmod, and avidemux. All gave invalid file type.... I'll try to contact the manufacturer tomorrow unless there are any other suggestions.

You can also try loading it into GSpot or MediaInfo and posting a screenshot (in GSpot's case) or cut and paste the information from MediaInfo's Tree View, here, and maybe someone will be able to know what to do with it. Blank out the path and/or filename if you prefer.

Most security camera DVRs use proprietary codecs. Google the model number to see if anyone has cracked that model.

Why not post the video file somewhere like megaupload so we can look at it.
