I have ripped several BluRay movies to my HD and started Handbrake to shrink them. I select the source, destination locations and file type (MKV) and then the start button. A DOS window pops up and says: "Encoding: task 1 of 2, 6.25 % " and hangs up. I have uninstalled & re-installed the program to no avail.
I'm running XP Pro with all current updates, Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83, 2 internal HD's totaling 1.5tb, 3gb ram. I can watch the movies on my computer but would like to shrink them for backup to dual layer dVD's.

Thanks in advance for any ideas and assistance.

Ripped as what ? A blu-ray folder with m2ts files? or a mkv or some other format?

If you have a blu-ray folder then would probably Ripbot264 be a better solution than handbrake.

Sorry about that, I used MAKEMKV and ripped to mkv files. I believe I'm experiencing a computer glitch as now the program(HANDBRAKE) won't even load. When I click on the HANBRAKE icon I get a windows message that says: "Handbrake has encountered a problem and needs to close." The error signature is:
    Event type: clr20r3 P1:handbrake.exe P2:0.9.4.0 P3: 4b0c5409 P4: mscorlib P5: 2.0.0.0 P6:492b834a P7:1b2a P8:c P9ystem.io.filnotfoundexception.
