OK, I've bought one of those cheapo capture devices, the Easycap DC60 USB plug-in.

Installed the drivers from the disc OK, but when I try to capture using Ulead I get an error message saying

    Capture Module Initilization failed
    Open Driver failed
Cannot create the video capture filter

    15064:10:1

I can record using Windows Movie Maker and WINAVI capture. HOWEVER, the picture is riddled with lines as if its not reciving the signal properly (see picture below), plus the picture doesn't flow, it keeps pausing/stuttering as if the processor can't keep up with the picture.

However, I can capture fine off my built in webcam in all functions.

I've tried downloading newer drivers, but the problem remains.

I'm using an Acer aspire laptop, with the following specs.

Microsoft Windows XP Media Centre SP2
    AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology TL-52
    1.60GHZ, 1GB of RAM

Any ideas what could be causing this or how to cure it?

    TIA

    Thanks for the reply.

Well, after trying differant codecs and drivers, trying it on differant machines and doing much googling on the issue, I concluded there was obviously a problem with the device itself.

I did actually eliminate the fuzzy picture by plugging the device directly into my USB port and NOT using the extension lead. However the audio problems persisted, so sent the unit back for a refund.

Seems these so-called Easycap devices are actually cheap chinese copies, which is why so many are fraught with problems.

So, have decided to pay the extra tenner and get one of the new official EZCap devices.
