  1. Greetings:

What do you think of this Mvix Ultio HD HDD media player in comparison to the WD TV Live?

Any comments and help is greatly appreciated.

The specs are very good. It is bigger in size than the WD as you can mount a 1TB drive inside of it. It'll play everything the WD can, although both units have problems with 7.1 DTS from Blu Ray (perhaps that's changed). Seems like it'll play videos from more online sites as well.

My main issue with it is the lack of rabid supporters, websites, forums, etc that the WD has. It'll be easier to get support on the WD TV Live because there's a bigger base of users out there for it.

  3. Thank you for your valuable input and comment.

I finally settle for the Patriot Box Office. At first I thought I have a picture quality problem (pixelation, jaggedness, blurriness, etc). After digging around, it turns out that I am confuse between the PBO resolution setting and turning on the 1080p 24Hz option in the setup menu. After setting up properly the resolution to match my HD TV (1080i 60Hz instead of 480p 60Hz), the picture quality is resolved. I think that I am going to keep the PBO even though I am still having problem of accessing some of my network share HD.

I also try the WD TV live and it didn't play some of my movies (ifo, vob) correctly. The movie screen supposes to fill my 16:9 TV, but shows only a little box in the middle of the screen. Even though zoom in to the max (1.2x), it can't fill my screen and the picture quality degrade noticebly. I experience the same problem with the PBO; however, I have a zoom option (2x) to fill the screen and the picture quality is much better than the WD TV Live.
