    Hello,

I have the following problem: I have converted a .mkv file to .avi (hardware option) without problems, great result, but I need to convert it again using a subtitle file. The result of conversion with subtitle is very bad, I mean the video is not flawless, it's sticking every second! Could somebody advice me please?

    Thanks a lot in advance!

Over christmas encoding has become the bane of my life, being quite new to converting media I tried every freeware converting tool on the internet and over the past few days have been messing around with xvid4psp i find this programe to be the best of a big bunch mainly because of the encoding options and the quality of the subs. I first tried xvid4psp 5.0 and like yourself found the task of extracting the subs, importing and hardcoding them time consuming and left me with undesirable results.
I find the older version xvid4psp 4114 to be much better and more user friendly it has the same encoder options and you don't have to extract the subs beforehand, as soon as you open the mkv file you get all the options to do anything you what (file output, bitrate, codec format etc) I would recommended you try this version, you can download it via the link on this site just click here xvid4psp and select old versions and you'll get a list. you could also try 4115 but i couldn't get this to work.

    Hope this helps.

I wouldn't recommend one pass encoding its quicker but is poor quality, i've had very good results using the simple 2 pass and up the bitrate a little if you wish, this only takes 5 or so mins longer than an ultra one pass and i find quite a difference.

If you're more interested in file size than quality, go with the two pass and shoot for a good bitrate. If you're more interested in quality than file size, use one pass CQ of 2 or 3 for the AVI Hardware (xvid).

Personally, saving an extra 100-200meg - 5 - 10% - off a 1.5gb to 3gb movie isn't worth the extra effort to me. I'd rather have consistent quality.
    Have a good one,

If the subs look horrid and there not hard coded you try aegisub and then hard code them in
