Has anyone used Crossloop for remote desktop?
I'm trying to find something simple for my parents and inlaws to be able to use so I can remotely control their pcs for updates, and fixes.

crossloop is dead a** slow...its a very convenient feature rich app/client/idea but your running thru crossloops service/servers and its slow to connect to say the least...i use the very simple and fast....Gbridge...basically, you and your parents need to sign up for a gmail email account and the connection used will be googles...meaning it'll be much faster and easier...gbridge is dead simple and i use it all the time when i'm away...nvr had an issue..and its free
here's the link

I've used UltraVNC and it's fairly simple and works well for my purposes. Never had much luck with Remote Desktop.

Problem with RDP is that it requires a Windows login, hides the desktop so that the local user can't interact with the system in conjunction with the remote user, and it isn't very secure. VNC running over SSL encryption and using a non-default port is a safer option and allows local user interaction if needed.

Gbridge has UltraVNC already built into it...after u install it, look in your program folders..UltraVNC is there...Gbridge uses UVNC as its core....the speed is great also

Tight VNC or UltraVNC, just remember to forward the ports on their router and they should only start the service when you are doing work. That will get you everything except BIOS level control. If you need control down to that level there are a few single port KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) devices that have a VNC server embedded and a local KVM connection. You could get that and just have them plug the device into the network when it needs attention (thus keeping the computer as secure as possible). I was going to put one on the radio station automation computer here at work, but the hoops that would need to be jumped through to get me access to the outside world were far to many.
I am putting TightVNC on all the computers in my labs so I can get to them from my desk since it isn't always possible to leave my office and go deal with them. It's free and seems to work fairly well.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
RemoteAnything....very small and fast. Also can be made invisible on the client machine.

As a last resort if you don't want to worry about port forwarding or network settings just use www.logmein.com free account.

So I tested crossloop and it worked great and very easy to use. Allows file transfers as well. Speed was great. Test on my sis's computer across town and didn't have a problem at all.
