I have no idea how to ask my question or the appropriate language to use so please bear with me.
I have several AVI and a couple MP4 files I wanted to burn to a DVD-R. My new Samsung BD-P1600 wont play DVD+Rs only DVD-Rs. I recently burned multiple files to a DVD-R (my other Phillips DVD player had no problem viewing DVD+Rs with upwards of 5 compressed movie files on it so I did not think there would be a problem with the newer blu ray player) but the blu ray gives a message "no program is found" after the disc is loaded. This DVD player came with a package deal for a new Samsung TV, which is what I was really purchasing. I would like to still be able to view my AVIs on it via a DVD-R. I was using PowerISO to burn the discs. Can anyone offer their advice? Its greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What samsung model? Many blu-ray players does not support any avi divx/xvid and mp4.

A Samsung BD-P1600. I listed it in original post. =)
The player came with a deal for an awesome Samsung TV. Honestly, I dont care much for blu ray. If i can get it to view my AVIs and MP4s fine, but Im only gonna stress so much about it before I go back to using my old dvd player and return this blu ray for money back in my pocket!
ETA - somewhere else online someone recommended DVD Flick. I used that, put two movies on it, and they actually play in the blu ray player but there is no menu so I'd have to fast forward through one movie to reach the second? Also, it took hours to burn two movies, ugh. -
You'll need to burn your +R discs with ImgBurn....with the correct burner....one that can change the booktype of your +R discs to DVD-ROM.
ImgBurn does this automatically now(if you have the right burner) so if you already use ImgBurn....then your burner is most likely not capable of booktyping.
Just buy -R from now on. -
Im confused.
I stated in my first post that the blu ray player says it is NOT compatible with +Rs only -Rs. Thus I rushed out to buy some -Rs and they still wont play.
DVD Flick uses ImgBurn to burn the actual DVD. I noticed that after it encoded it, this is what I was saying took forever!
Though these are probably solutions that will work this is just making me like the blu ray player less and less. I have over 200 movies to convert from +Rs (used on my other player, Phillips DVP 5140) to this new Samsung, doesnt seem worth the time or effort for me. I dont care about the blu ray technology. I care about being able to watch the movies I already have! Sooo frustrating.
ETA- when i used DVD Flick to burn two movies, it actually played in the blu ray player BUT the movie automatically started upon loading and yet I put two movies on there. So am I expected to fast forward through the entire movie to get to the other one? Not to mention it took hours to created the one DVD. -
IMHO then just buy a regular upconverting dvd player like a PHILIPS which can playback just about everything.

The irony is I HAD a Phillips, but I gave it to my parents when this player came with the TV deal. I dont know anything about blu ray so I didnt think there would be a problem at all. <sigh> I was trying to see if I could make it work, but I just dont want to be bothered with it to be honest. That sucks. Im gonna return it and buy another Phillips probably.

^^^That would the best option to return it and get another Philips one.
If your local Best Buy doesn't have the Philips 5990 instock you could get one from the Philips website or Newegg has the 3980 for $54.00 with free shipping.

I know how lame it must seem when I say I dont care for blu ray but it is what it is ya know. Thanks!

The Samsung BD-P1600 only plays DVD-ROM, DVD-R and DVD-RW....and it only plays NTSC format video.....according to the manual.

Ive gotten the help I need, thanks. I did not buy this player because I wanted it but because it was part of a package deal. It is too much trouble to convert over 200 Divx movies I have so I can watch them on the blu ray. Ill return it for $75 and turn around and buy a multiformat all region DVD like I had before.
Thanks to those that responded.
