    Hey everyone,

I have a Canon ZR-950; I want to upload my video footage to Windows Movie Maker. The program's help section said I either need an IEEE 1394 cable or a USB 2.0 cable. Which should I buy?

    Thanks for the help.

The ieee 1394. That will let you transfer the original dv information. A usb cable would be lower quality.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it.

Just realized my computer doesn't have a place to plug a firewire/IEEE-1394 cable into. Do I have to do with a USB 2.0 instead? Or is there a way to use a firewire and an adapter to plug it into a USB port?

    Thanks again!

no, usb won't work and there aren't any usb->firewire converters that work. you will need to buy a firewire card and install it in your computer.

You can add a firewire card to your PC.

I had to do this with the first computer I used with my Canon camcorder.

[Edit: my link research slowed me down ]

So I can't upload video at all with my computer as-is? I wouldn't be able to import using a USB?

No. See Page 67 of your manual. USB is for stills only for the ZR-950.

Other option is to buy an analog NTSC capture card but that will be lower quality and cost much more than a $5.99 IEEE-1394 card.

Or you can sell the camcorder. Or you can toss it in a lake.

You had the answer several times but refused it.

I had to download the manual that you have or could have downloaded yourself.

I told you you could use an analog capture card but you reset the question to whether firewire was the only way.

    Pay attention.
