  1. Newbie here, not sure where to post. here is what my question is.

    I have a sony rear projection tv. ( kp-51ws510 ), a philips dvp5960 dvd player and a denon avr-688 receiver.
I currently run component cables from my receiver to my tv and want to know how much of a difference it would make to purchase a hdmi to dvi cable to run from my receiver to my tv.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks in advance.

Probably not much. But a decent DVI/HDMI cable only costs about US$10 so you might as well try it.

  3. Both TV's I have made such a switch on showed significant improvement. For the low price of a cable, definitely worth it.

I see no significant difference between component video (which uses 3 cables) and HDMI on my Samsung HDTV. Nelson37's experience is not typical in my opinion. Possibly he is confusing 3 cable component with old style 1 cable composite and HDMI and DVI are significantly better than that. Or perhaps he really does see a difference but it's because his TV doesn't handle component video correctly. The odds are extremely high, in my opinion, that you will see little to no difference.

http://www.newegg.com is a great source for computer parts and they also sell really cheap cables including HDMI to DVI cables. I've been using them for all my HDMI cable needs. If you don't have to have it today and can wait for it to come in the mail, their prices are much lower than you'll find at any local store.

Monoprice is also a good source for HDMI/DVI cables: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10231

    And welcome to our forums.

  6. thanks for the input. my cables that run from my receiver to my tv are the ones with the red , green, and blue plugins. Bought from monoprice awhile ago before my amp. now that i have the option to try out hdmi video out to my tv I thought I should try it.

I would certainly try it. With the larger screen TV the difference may be more noticeable than with a smaller set.
