May I ask what problems you guys have been having with AVG? I'm using the latest version on Windows 7 with no problems.

My old computer has a P4 1.6 GHz CPU, and I switched to Avast because AVG 8.0 took too much CPU time. Since then I got a new computer, and I suspect AVG would not look like such a resource hog now, but decided to stay with Avast.

I switched from AVG to Avast, SUPERAntiSpyware, and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Never had a problem. It's always best to use these others that I have along with Avast because not all Anit virus programs can protect you from all.

Also as soon as I got rid of AVG and got the others I did some scans and picked up some stuff that AVG wasn't able to find..

    Good Luck

  4. MS Security Essentials, which does everything I want; check out http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822158 for scanning recommendations. I occasionally scan with SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes however I haven't seen such a critter in years.

Thanks for the link. The 2 "secondary" PCs have already been upgraded to Win7 and are using Security Essentials.

(When I get around to upgrading my main PC, I'll probably stay with Avast.)

Avast is a very good choice. Just keep in mind that one anti virus will not pick up on everything.. It's always good to do a secondary or even a third scan with a different scanner.

    Good Luck

My browser doesn't like to open web pages with AVG 9, especially if I get a few open at a time. I'm using XP home and everything is up to date. Since switching to Avast I've had no problems.

I should point out that in addition to using Avast as a resident, always-on, program, I use SAS and Malwarebytes on-demand.

One should only have one AV program running as resident, but you can use several anti-malware programs to, indeed, catch as much as possible.
