  1. I have home movies dating back to 1994 they are in MPEG-2 DVD format non-widescreen. I have been thinking about converting them to H264 and then putting them on a blu-ray disc. Is this a bad idea? I can probably get all of them on one blu-ray disc.

I also keep copies of them on my PC. If i converted them to H264 they would be half the size without any noticeable quality loss.

They are in multiple files so if i got them down to only a few it would be easer to keep track off.

You may also be able store several dvd mpeg2s on a blu-ray disc(in blu-ray video format) without reconversion. Using for example multiAVCHD.

But I guess you want to shrink them a bit also?
But if the source quality is not that good and they are interlaced I don't think it's any good ideo to convert them again. Have you tried convert some to h264?

Your right the source quality is not the best. I have tired to convert to H264 but im still trying to decide what bitrate to use. They look so bad compared to todays HD content so it's hard to judge.

Will the blu-ray player end up upscaling them?

Ripbot will load SD DVD's and convert them to BlueRay.
