Hello all. I am new to this so please bare with me. I know this might be more of a question for the video conversion portion of the board but since I am new to this, I thought for the sake of others, I'd post this here.

OK, I have been dying to make a highlight video of my favorite NBA team for youtube. I started recording games about a month ago. I have a LVW-5115GHC+ recorder that I use. I use DVD DECRYPTER to rip and use HandBrake to convert them to H.264 MP4 files ( deinterlace them due to bad artifact) to edit in Premier pro.

First of all, I am not sure that is the best format to edit ( plays and looks great until I put them in the timeline, then the video skips or stops but audio is normal). Second of all, they ended up look real bad on a few uploads that I tested after rendering.

I guess my question is how should I start this conversion process, and how can I keep a nice crisp look to them upon completion. Handbrake makes them look great but should that be the route to start in? Should I keep them in a Mpeg4 format ( Liteon's codec)?

I have been stuck for several days trying to figure this out. I read several how to's on this site and tried various ways to do this, but to no avail.

I am fairly new to the encoding process so please forgive me for being so "noobish" to this.

    Your help is much appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Joe

I use DVD_RAM then I can unload the *.vro file onto my computer and rename it *.mpg. In your case try makeing an Iso file using dvddecrypter then converting to iso and faireusewizard to make an xvid.

Think low compression first, high compression (h.264) when you are done editing with Premiere.

If DVD MPeg2 is the best you can do for capture, leave it interlace MPeg2 (no deinterlace) and import that to Premiere for editing. As for export from Premiere, what are your goals? YouTube? DVD? Other?

    Thanks for the quick responses.

By the way, it's mpeg4 for capture...using the dvd recorder. I then use Handbrake to compress (H264). What would you recommend for encoding? For editing that is. And what program do you recommend? Oh, and it's for youtube.

I do almost all my editing in Sony Movie Studio + DVD, as far as encoding I was suggesting an avi should be good.

Youtube allows it. I have made several videos already using video from nba.com. I have no problem editing those clips since they are of good quality but I am taping the games for extra material. Youtube or the nba have no problem with it. Youtube is flooded with NBA material.
