I just upgraded from Mint 7 to Mint 8 and am experiencing some odd happenings. The screen goes black for no reason, the window manager hangs, wireless connections are lost here and there.

Anyone else experiencing oddness with Mint 8?

Screw it, I'm out. Mint 8 is falling down every way it can on it. So I'm switching to CrunchBang Linux. Anyone a current user?

No, but I like reading your posts on this stuff. I still plan to try some various Linux in VMs early next year.

Never enjoyed LinuxMint 8(which is a knockoff of Ubuntu). The forum that was suppose to Help was none!! I opted for Mepis 8 and AVLinux...Both I enjoyed Mepis 8 is very user friendly and the forum site is GREAT!! AVLinux just released a new version and the creator is a member here. Linux is a good OS which is free, but you must weed through the many OS systems to find the right fit. Good luck, I'm happy with a dual boot on one of my systems right now.

I had tried AVLinux, it's good, yes. Known the author for a long time now.

CrunchBang was a no go. It claimed to be a lightweight Ubuntu fork, but it still had a lot of extra crap installed by default. Even Mint was more reserved with the default software. Plus it was lacking with the basics, such as turning off using the mousepad to click. So it comes with gimp, but no mouse preferences.

I'm about to give Jolicloud a try. It's a cloud OS similar to the new Google OS, so it could be perfect for my netbook.

Mint 8 was very buggy for me, but Mint 7 was super solid! If I don't find a distro I like, I'll be going back to Mint 7.
