Some suggest this approach : http://www.redkawa.com/mediacenters/ps3mediacenterx/

My understanding is that short of installing Linux on your PS3, there is no way to ftp to it. You can use a suitable DNLA client however. Some NAS units come with DNLA capabilities and allow file transfers as well as media sharing. Most standalone media clients are media focused (allowing copying of media files as well streaming) and don't support general file transfers.

What, exactly, are you hoping to do?

If you want to simply transfer files between a computer and a PS3 in your house, using a USB flash drive might be better. If you're trying to stream video from a computer to a PS3, there are some solutions, but I don't know if any of them work on a Mac.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

For streaming - PS3 media Server - runs under Windows, Linux and OS X - and is the best PS3 DNLA server around IMO

i'm trying to transfer video files that are around 10 gig to my ps3 HD. they're m2ts files and streaming them gets too chopy. i'm using ps3media server to stream the files but they're still too chopy. i've tried to copy the video files using the ps3 media server but it takes too long.

all i'm trying to do is place 10gig m2ts files onto my ps3 hd.

  6. so far, i've been able to transfer my 8gig m2ts files successfully but any file over 10 gig shows the video but no audio.

How are you transferring the files?

I'd still recommend a good USB external drive, something large enough to hold the files you want to transfer (even if just one at a time). Problem with that, though, is that I don't know if the PS3 will read from a USB drive formatted in HFS/HFS+ or NTFS (to avoid the FAT 4GB filesize limitation).

i've been using ps3 media server to transfer the files. it takes forever and works fine for files under 5 gigs. for files over 5 gigs especially the ones that are 10 gigs, the video works but no audio comes out once its in the ps3. the same m2ts files look and work fine on my mac.

the files over 10 gigs that i've been trying to transfer have dts audio on the original mkv. perhaps i'm transcribing them incorrectly using tsmuxer. is there a special way to transcribe mkv files with dts audio to m2ts ?
