the length of the avi doesnt matter... with VCD its the length of the source. if the avi is 74 mins long you need 74 minute media (or better) if its about 79 min you need 80 min media... (we wont get into 99 minute disks).. if its longer than 80 mins then u will need to split it

I have the same problem. I was wonderin how it was possible that u cud get up to 800mb on one 700mb cd when u made a VCD. I read somewhere that u cud actually end up with this much data on once cd, as long as it was physically only 70-80 mins of film. theres definately no way to get more than 80 mins on a 700mb cd even if the file will actually fit?

Standard compliant VCD's can not cram 2hrs of film on to a single CD, but you can make a XVCD, which does not have the same restriction. But when you are making a XVCD where you fit 2hrs of film on 1 CD you usually have to sacrifice quality. Some people claim to have made 'almost lossless' XVCD templates, and if the source is , for example, an animated film, you probably won't notice the loss of quality that much. So VCD or XVCD? VCD is standard, XVCD less quality, but more playing time.

Mute is correct.
If you are doing a cartoon or animated feature, you can easily use one of the Templates offered here on VCDHELP.COM,Tools...using CQ_VBR compression and get up to 100 minutes on a 80 min cd with no noticeable loss in quality. However,if you are doing a high, action, colorful movie the previous method is "ok" but noticeably deteriorated in quality.
