    Hello

I've got a friend that is trying to convert his HD mov videos so he can edit them in vegas. What software would you recommend to use that would convert the mov file so its editable in vegas, and achieving the best possible quality.

    THank you

  2. You should be able to edit them natively in vegas with quicktime installed

If not, use mediainfo (view=>text) ,and post the information on the .mov files

well I used gspot to see what it was, and this is the info I got.

gspot reports it as Apple QT/MOV 1280x720 at 59.923 fpts. Audio is 48k 128bits per sec. Codec AVC1 H.264

    codec is mpeg-4 AAC LC

  4. I get 720/60p H.264 files from my Canon 7D and use MPEG Streamclip with the Avid DNXHD codec to convert the files prior to editing in Sony Vegas Pro 9. MPEG Streamclip and the Avid DNXHD codec are free, but be prepared as the converted files are about 1GB/min of video!

Also, Vegas Pro 8/9 supports these files with Quicktime installed, but it is MUCH easier to work with them (within Vegas) after converting to the DNXHD codec.

Here is a great tutorial I found online:
