Slow motion problem in Sony Vegas 9

Some time ago I decided to check if there was a way to make good slow-mo without the hassle with avisynth etc (http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2009/0...h-slow-motion/) even though I know it would be great to learn that stuff.
Anyway I sat down and exported a 50%slow-mo clip filmed in 50i with my canon hf-100, and I did this in maybe 15-20 different ways - using different combinations of deinterlacing/motion blur types etc.
And this one clip came out JUST AS SMOOTH as I want it to be, no overlaying double-layers when paused etc., just a bit smugded out, and the motion was non-stuttery.

The thing is, I thought it would be easy to back-track to that specific setting (as I did not write down every setting I exported with) but I have not yet found out the same formula.

I'm using sony vegas 9 btw. So the changes I did was:
    1. within the clip itself (right-click and properties @ timeline; disable/smart/force resampling, and field order (upper first/none(progressive))).
    2. Project settings, changed field orders; Motion blur type and deinterlace method.
    3. Rendering settings: Entropy coding: CAVLC or CABAC, and Field order as progressive or Upper field first.

I work in a ntsc 29.970-project but that shouldn't change much in quality eh?

I know that my problem is a mess, but check this and you'll see what I'm eager to achieve.

    Good slowmo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlSyONQdX2I
    Bad slowmo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzTWH1XfwHc

Just pause and see the difference between the clips - it's obvious but I can't seem to figure it out setting-wise.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Your "good" one is a 25p project, and your "bad" one is a 30p project

Since your source footage is 50i, and you did a 50% slow down, there is no frame interpolation in the 25p project because it is evenly divisible - i.e it gets bob deinterlaced to 50p and put on a 25p timeline which is exactly divisible by half.

With a 30p timeline project, so you have to either a) blend or b) duplicate frames (you used blend in your "bad" sample) to make it work at 50% because it's not nicely divisible because you need a 50p => 60p conversion to be 1/2 speed for a 30p project. Vegas doesn't offer higher quality c) frame interpolation (ie. generate new frames), such as after effects pixel motion

Suggestion: use a 25p timeline project, or use frame interpolation software (eg after effects, avisynth) to generate a 60p asset to re-import into vegas if you need a 30p project

Okay, sounds good and I'll try that out as soon as I get home today - thanks for the answer.
Btw you seem like a knowing person What software do you use and what learning curve has your programs compared to vegas?

Vegas is pretty easy to use and learn about, but I use Premiere Pro now, because of integration with photoshop, AE and ease of use with other Adobe products. The workflow is not to difficult either, but most people are either a "vegas" person or a "premiere" person because of the way they edit (style). I think most people would say vegas is easier to use.

Online there are way lots of video & written tutorials for both (probably more for vegas)

Avisynth is an incredible versatile tool as well, but learning curve is more steep - it's not really GUI based, more based on text and code but well worth the effort to learn. I hated it at first, but it's easily the most powerful and versatile video tool IMO

    Cheers
