  1. New to AVCHD, just got my first HD camcorder today.

It looks like the card has more than just the video clip file (mts). There are info files and a whole folder structure that store some metadata about the video clips.

Is there a player that understands this folder structure and able to use them (such as search by date)?

    Thanks!

there should be a player included with your cam. and splash will read this data as far as i know but it will be included in non-free version i guess.

i think there is no free player that you need at the moment.

I would start at the manufacture's website. I agree with nitro, you should have received a install disk or something! Maybe not, as some of the Flip cams are being marketed with directly compatible to Windows Media Player and do not require any other software.

hello cheerful I hope that this will help.
    HD Cam Card Files
here are fhe some of files on my (panasonic) camera SD cards :-
    100CDPP still jpg images

    STREAM
nnnnn.MTS video files which I play usimg the free 'Mediaplayer Classic' (home cinema), The VLC ( video lan ) player will also do and, no doubt you will find other free players on the web.

Any up to date editing software should allow you to convert, edit and play them.
I copy the MTS into the computer from the card using a card reader and continue working from there. I do not recommend the software that came with my camera.

there are more knowlegable people around here who will help but this may get you thinking along the right lines
    stay cheerful --- yours Mike
