I just had an interesting experience. I was on a mission to download and buy the St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion) song by John Parr from the St Elmo's Fire movie soundtrack. Now I went to Zune and tried to buy just the song. But it would only let me buy it if I bought the album. I just want the song not the album.

I can download it with my subscription I have with my Zune so I will be able to get the song without buying the whole album. But I won't be able to burn it to disc with the subscription download.

So I thought I'd check out Amazon.com's mp3 section. The same thing happened. The original song is available only with an album purchase.

Have any of you come across this? This is an odd approach to me. Why would you deny sales of a song to force people to buy an entire album? I know they want to sell as much as they can but they should realize that people want to buy just a single song a great deal of the time.

Just curious if others have had this happen too.
