i received an asus Eee pc laptop for christmas, and am interested in hooking it up to my tv. i bought a VGA to RGB converter (http://www.1topstore.com/images/products_images/unfurl/vga-to-rca-cable-1652.jpg), so i hooked it up to my laptop (VGA) and the RGB to my HDTV via the video component cables to my HDTV output 2. i havent had any luck with getting it to work, and the only sign of it slightly working was when i changed my resolution on my laptop to 1024x768, and all i got out of that was like a scrambled pinkish screen, which quickly vanishes. i also get a lot of "invalid mode" warnings on my tv. does anyone know how to fix this?
also, i'm thinking of buying a vga to vga so i can connect my laptop to my tv that way. will i run into the same problems as i did with my vga to rgb converter?
thanks

If your TV has a VGA input, that's what you should be using. You may be a bit limited on resolution settings, but I had no problems running my Eee into a 15" VGA monitor I had handy. You should see the TV as a secondary monitor in your Control Panel>Displays and you can adjust the resolution there.

I've had my Eee for a couple of months now and it's very handy for travel. It does have some problems with AES wireless encryption, but adding a different wireless driver seems to fix that.

 And welcome to our forums.

I went to control panel>display with the RGB converter before and i tried all resolutions, and nothing. if i had a vga to vga running from my laptop to my hdtv, wouldnt i run into the same problem as my rgb cables?

the only activity i get is under these settings:

Display: 2. Default Monitor on Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family

 Screen Resolution: 1280 by 720.

and thats where the screen will flash a snowy wall of pink, or green.

 and thanks

I'm guessing the VGA>RGB converter isn't doing a very good job of converting. With VGA>VGA, no converting required. Just put the TV in PC mode and plug in a regular VGA cable. You may be able to borrow one off one of your PC monitors to test it out. With VGA>VGA, no converting required. Just put the TV in PC mode and plug in a regular VGA cable. haha, i actually lol'd at your converting joke :P. my buddy has an lcd monitor, usually they have a vga at both ends, but this one only has one for the videocard/motherboard, and the other end is right in the monitor without the option of removing it. lol. well, tomorrow or sunday i will pick up a vga to vga. thank you for your help, i appreciate it
