  1. Hi

I'm using DVDfab to convert all my DVD's using the h264-codec, so I can put everything into XBMC.
But I don't like the SUB/IDX files, they have a bad quality. Since I have an HD-TV, they look really awfull.
I tried subrip, but takes a long time to convert all my subs to srt, and isn't perfect.
It has spaces where there shouldn't be.
Anyone knows a different tool to convert sub/idx to srt.

    thanks in advance

I would try Subtitle Edit, it can import and ocr sub/idx.

Or avidemux under tools -> OCR(sub to srt) or subresync (included in vobsub).

I've had best luck with subresync, but do note that the conversion is NOT automatic. It uses OCR, so you have to type in letters, numbers and symbols until all the different ones are mapped. It can easily take you 10+ minutes to convert this way. You may still have to manually delete extra spaces from the SRT output though. A text editor like Microsoft Word or something similar can be helpful to change something like 2 blank spaces to 1 blank space quickly in the entire file.
