8) Hey, what's up guys?... being off the field for a good long time.
Never thought i would come back after so many time...![]()
Anyway...
Back on my days, i used tmpgenc plus a lot for encoding my MPEG-2s, and
i developed a lot of sympathy for this app. i guess i'm just afraid of the new stuff.
I wonder if there's any possibility that any of you could help me with
a good 1:1 encoding preset for tmpgenc plus.
A real 1:1 encoding is obviusly impossible. MPEG-2 is 4:2:0, my DV Files are 4:1:1.
But i just can get the quality i'm looking for.
I've been stuck with Canopus ProCODER 2, wich has an amazing quality at 8000Kbps
is almost exactly like the original Source. But i really hate the UI, and it makes everything
so complicated.
I've tried to push tmpgenc up to 8000kbps CB for max and min. but it's not even close
to the canopus procoder encoding.
I tough that maybe my MATRIX is all fuc#ed up ( but i've also tried default settings ) wich is strange.
Thank you very much in advance.
Peace![]()

Here's an article called "Configuring TMPGEnc for high-quality, DVD-compliant MPEG-2:"
http://dvd-hq.info/dvd_compression.php
I'm not so sure TMPGEnc Plus can match up against ProCoder, but with the right settings, it can do a good job. Use short video clips to experiment with different settings. You don't want to do a long encode until you find something that looks the best. (And TMPGEnc is notoriously slow.)
Also, you need to make sure your source DV files are pristine. For example, some timeline editors reencode the entire DV AVIs (not just transitions and effects) when exporting. That's why it is always best to frameserve directly from the editing timeline to the MPEG-2 encoder. -
Also be sure you are comparing the same video encoded by both encoders. Some videos require more bitrate than others. Noisy, interlaced handheld DV camcorder footage is amongst the worst.
