There's very little known about the use of the FFmpeg subtitle commands.

I once was able to mux-in a vobsub subtitle in a vob with the "-scodec copy" command and FFdshow could display it. But the color settings for a DVD subtitle come from the IFO's so it didn't really looked useful.

AFAIK, subtitles in vobs only work properly in a full DVD structure as created with a DVD authoring program.

Why is the original post removed

This was a reply on a question by someone from Hong Kong

IMO there was nothing wrong with the question.

You may have a hard time finding people who would use your methods to add subs to a VOB, since there are simpler ways to do it -- but yes, those simpler ways involve DVD authoring programs. Nevertheless, you can keep the DVD structure fairly simple. DVDAuthorGUI is free, and looks somewhat simple. (I'm not completely sure, since I use the similarly-named but more complex GUI for DVDAuthor.) There does not need to be a re-encode of the video and audio files, just a step to set the color parameters of the subs, followed by muxing all the elements together.

I'm not sure I understand your objections to using DVD authoring software for muxing purposes.
