Because I've never had occasion to do this before . . .

I know that subs come in different formats. These happen to be in a .Sub file.
How do I go about attaching them to a movie file(s), preferably with an appropriate time-sync ?
What tools ? Is there a good guide for this ?

For whatever it's worth, the one program I have that does editing -- as opposed to ripping, converting, etc. -- and which I've used at least a little bit, is Womble Wizard DVD version 4.

    There is also this thread:

But I found a very good suggestion from Baldrick -- near the bottom of p. 2 of this thread --

to be just the ticket for me, since I did have ConvertXtoDVD and the procedure seemed accessible without needing much in the way of skill or experience.

It turned out that that movie did in fact have English subtitles already, but they were not so well-timed and flashed by much too fast to be read. I did have a "syncro" .Sub file that came as a separate file with the movie, but did not use that either. The links in these threads giving sources for subtitle files in various formats can save a lot of time and trouble. Why mess with format-converting / editing / synching if you don't have to ? Of the three other subtitle files I found online, I decided to go with the .SRT one, and that turned out to be a good choice. Using CX2D options, I detached the existing (not very useful) subtitles, and replaced them with the .SRT version file. Then I just let CX2D do its thing. Voila ! Much better subs, now readable. No resynching necessary.
