I'm looking for a quick way to add padding (black borders) to a bunch of divx avi files. I would prefer not to re-encode but if I have to thats ok as these are small sample clips and quality is not a big deal. I want to keep AR in tact and just add borders based on a percentage if possible. I searched for a virtualdub filter but couldnt find one. I also tried Quick Media Converter but in advanced mode it doesn't seem to complete any conversions, just the first few seconds. QMC works fine in simple mode but there is no padding option in simple mode. Any help will be appreciated. I'm open to any suggestions but keep in mind my video editing skills are about a 3 out of 10, 1 being clueless and 10 being expert. Thanks

Using a program such as Sony Vegas, or Adobe After Effects you simply have to resize the video on a black background, then re-render.

Except that neither of them play well with Divx without a lot of screwing around.

Virtualdub - Resize filter (built in). resize it to the size it is (i.e. no change), then use the Add Border function to add the black areas.

    of use Avisynth's AddBorders statement

I haven't needed to play with them in order to use dvix. Occasionally I have had to fourcc the video codec to divx, but usually they work right out the chute.

I know AVIDemux also has one or two filters for adding black borders, but that's probably a slightly more complicated method.

Doesn't FitCD also have a way to generate AVISynth scripts that will add borders to a video? I don't have it on this system to check, and haven't used it in some time.

FitCD is great for this if you are outputting for specific formats (DVD, SVCD etc), but not so helpful if you just want to add borders around an arbitrary resolution.

Thanks everyone. I played around with virtualdubs resize filter and was able to get the results I wanted. I also found that XmediaRecode did this easily.
