  1. I'm reading the Microsoft Groove is better for team projects, even for those who work offline (like in an airplane). I don't understand how if two people are working simultaneously on a document, one is on a airplan with no internet access and the other in a library with internet access, how does Groove determine how to merge these two documents together?

What if both people worked on the exact same part of the document? How does it sync with no internet? i.e. How does the person in the library get the latest document from the person who saved it on his laptop on the plane with no internet ??

Does Groove sync only when there is access to internet? Meaning in this case, the person in the library with internet gets the latest doc uploaded to the rest of the project team, and the person in the plane get his uploaded to the client later, once he gets online?

It has to be that way. I have not read any information on this product but that is the only way it can be done in my opinion.

If you have one user offline and the other online it can only be completely synched when both have been online at some point. If the other user never goes online again then that user has a "dead" document. In otherwords it won't ever be updated unless the file is physically transferred by copying from a cd\dvd\bluray\flashdrive directly to the computer.

At least that is my interpretation of this technique.

The way ms groove works is when you login to groove it auto sends the changes to the team mates when you are online and any changes from your team mates are auto sent to you when they are online, simple as that.

So basically both the user and team mates have to be online and have groove open at the same time to upate each other.

  4. Thanks for the reply guys. Suppose two or more teammates work on the EXACT same part/slide of a powerpoint deck, or update the same sentence in a word doc. How does Groove recognize all the different changes to a new updated version?
