    General : F:\!tv\movietitle.720p.mkv
    Format : Matroska at 8 699 Kbps
    Length : 8 GiB for 2h 10mn 45s 856ms

    Video #0 : AVC at 6 810 Kbps
    Aspect : 1280 x 688 (1.850) at 23.976 fps

    Audio #0 : DTS at 1 536 Kbps
    Infos : 6 channels, 48.0 KHz

As shown above the Aspect is 1280x688 which I would like to convert to 1280x720
keeping all else the same. Eventually I would like to be able to play this on a standalone
blueray player using dvd dl media. Shrinking I can do but the Aspect is a puzzler. Any
    suggestions would be appreciated.

  2. To play on a standalone blu-ray player, it needs to be 1280x720. This is the resolution or dimensions of the frame, not aspect ratio. The content has 1.85 aspect ratio because 1280/688 = ~1.86 AR, and it's square pixel

You have to re-encode with borders to keep the same AR. You could use uncropmkv for example. You could use multiavchd to author & put on a DVD9

If you did not include letterboxing, everything would be stretched & distorted (people would be tall)

I would like to use uncropmkv but cannot find a guide or procedure to do this.

  4. It's pretty straight forward, you don't need a guide

There are some instructions on the homepage

Load the mkv file into uncropmkv, set the bitrate to 7400,click on the settings tab, choose 2pass fast, click on queue and then start and wait a few hours.

    johns0,

I set it up as per your instructions but forgot to ask about the output file. Where is it going to be?

The output file goes in the same folder as the input file.

OK that sounds good. It has been running for a while now and the eta says one more hour. I appreciate your staying with me on this. Your avatar scared me at first but now I know it is friendly.

Well it finally finished but the output file came out with an extension 264. Is this what it is supposed to be? If so now what do I do with it? There were no errors reported in the log. I hate to be so picky here but this is my first try so everything seems strange

If theres no mkv with name uncropped added then you can mux the extension 264 with mkvtoolnix, install that and then open mkvmerge GUI and add the extension 264 file and the ac3 which you can demux from the mkv with tsmuxergui.

Mkvmerge GUI will then say it assumes the file is 25fps and if you need to change the setting go to the format specific options tab/fps and choose 2400/1001 if your file is 23.976 or leave it as 25fps if its that, then save as mkv.

Once in awhile uncropmkv wont mux the elementary files together so you have to mux it yourself, not a big deal once you learn to do it.

Thanks for the info. It looks time consuming so I will have to wait until tomorrow. I hope that you will still be around.
