  1. Guys not sure what happened with Windv, but now whenever I try to use it it only will record 254 kb files, and when it is recording and shows how much time has went by, the numbers are just random long numbers. In other words if 5 seconds has been recording, it shows numbers like 23435523..flickering. The max avi size is set at 1000000 in options.

I have used this for 3 years, and this is the first time I have ever had this problem. BTW, I am using Win98...yeah I know I need to upgrade, but I am broke.

    Uninstall and reinstall?

WinDV is a control panel (plus buffer) that sits atop DirectX.

  3. I tried uninstall/reinstall but still not working. What you think, maybe reinstall DirectX?

That's what I'd do. Others may have ideas.

It sounds like it's not receiving correct time codes from the camera.

254kb is one DV frame - if it's set to split by timecode, and the timecodes are random, each frame ends up in a separate file.

As a debug measure, set the discontinuity threshold to 0 seconds - this disables file splitting. See what happens.

    Cheers,
    David.

  6. I disabled it and still having the same problem. I tried using DIVO, and it does the same thing, it only records 132kb.

  7. Fellows I am bumping this thread, because of edDV I think I know what the problem may be. edDV mentioned buffering, and now I noticed MPC is having a hard time playing wmv files. The wmv vids are jerky and keep stopping. So I am guessing something is wrong with the buffering. Any thoughts on how I can go about fixing it?

if you filled in your profile's computer specs it might help some.
open the control panel and watch to see how much cpu is free during capture.
also what do you have for hard drives and how much free space.

  9. Win98...yeah I know I need to upgrade. HD has over 3 gigs free. These problems just started a couple weeks ago when I reinstalled the OS. At first MPC would not open at all after the install so I downloaded Active X and reinstalled the K-lite codec pack, and MPC started working again, but it is doing as I described, and also windv is still doing the same as I decribed above.

in task manager how much free memory is there? 3GB is not nearly enough free h.d. space. a single tape is 13GB. windv doesn't check for free space on the hard drive so if it ran out no telling what would happen.

As I recall, there was a patch specifically for Firewire issues and Win98SE.

    Googling.......

    Here you go:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/242975/EN-US/

And, as aedipuss says, 3GB isn't near enough to transfer DV video. And, you've been around here long enough, you should know better about installing a codec pack.

  12. I am only transfering short clips like between 30-60 second clips. Thanks I will give the patch a shot, if it does not work guess I will reinstall the OS again, or active x.

WinDV puts the buffer in RAM. Plus as others said, it doesn't behave well as the hard disk fills.
