Hi there! I've got MEGUI, version 0.3.1.1051. Unfortunately it is not updating anymore. I was just wondering what happened. Anyone? Thanks in advance!
    Cheers,

  2. MeGUI is no longer actively developed, it's on to it's last days....

You can change the URL of the update server to update, or set to the development server, but there are many many issues with intercompatiblity with newest x264 versions (there are new functions and switches that aren't implemented in the GUI, so commands are not passed through correctly)

    http://megui.org/auto

0.3.1.1057 is the latest, but 0.3.1.1056 is the last stable version (you have to use matching x264 versions, or the switches won't match)

I would use the commandline (the newer x264 revisions have presets which make it easier to use), or a GUI that is updated eg. ripbot264, staxrip, hdconverttox, handbrake

Hi there fella! Thanks so much for taking time to respond. Sorry for the late reply. It's sad to know that MEGUI is on to its last days... What a pity because MEGUI ia a wonderful piece of software. Anyway, I'd like to thank you for the info on downloading new GUIs.
    Cheers (falow),

    BTW, have a Merry Xmas.

  4. Well some other folks have temporarily maintained it. These are buggy patched builds

What? Why did they stop supporting Megui? I've always used that to encode it's awesome =[

It used to be awesome, and the most fully featured. But recently they were down to 2 developers. One had health issues, the other was busy with other things. Hopefully other talented folk keep it running. But it really is a bit of work to keep it updated, since x264 is developing so fast; you have to continuously update the GUI and switches to match the x264 versions

The newer x264 versions aren't that hard to run from command line, or using a simple GUI like Lord Mulder's GUI. They have presets

Anyway, IMHO people who are experts should continue the project. Looks like a DVD Decrypter case revival without those RIA pushes.

For x264 GUIs, I like to use staxrip for Windows and Handbrake on mac. Staxrip implemented a DivX Plus preset that'll let you target the upcoming DivX Plus HD devices, that will play MKV/H.264/AAC files. I kind of miss the AVI support in Handbrake, though.

  9. I still use MeGUI when I don't need fine-grained control over the latest options. I simply copy in the latest x264 revision into its tools directory and everything works fine. Its other functions still work fine too - the D2V creator (DGIndex), AVS cutter, audio encoding with cutlists, cropping videos with a preview window, the batch job system - so it's still useful to me.

Been thinking of trying a new GUI, though, which gives me the freedom to use commandline options. Any recommendations? Would Lord Mulder's GUI or Ripbot264 be good choices?
