I am using Virtual DubMod to convert mpeg2 to avi that will play on newer DVD players. In Virtual DubMod, I am using Xvid-1.1.3 (for some reason shows up as 1.1.2 (see screenshot).
My question is: Is this a good codec? Or should I be using a newer, or different one (to get the best possible picture at 360kbps video bit rate, playable on DVD players)? I already know about 2 pass and MSU Deblocking filter (if I want to take 4 times more encoding time).

The latest Xvid build that I am aware of is 1.2.2; I'd always recommend using the most recent version of any software.
360kbps eh? I hope you're watching on a small screen, I generally use 1500kbps for action movies at 720x576.
