I get the message that the Blu-ray to Blu-ray option has expired, but according to DVDFab: " NOTE! The decryption, DVD to HDD and Blu-ray to HDD, is FREE, if you want more features then it's a trialware."

I just want to copy my Blu-ray to my HD. Is there a way to do it?

Maybe they have changed it lately, but http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm?vid=avangate&aid=675 also mentions that it is free.

I'm going to try it and see.

Remember to choose HD Decrypter when you start it also! Not Blu-ray to Blu-ray.

  3. "Blu-ray to HDD" is not the same thing as "Blu-ray to Blu-ray". "Blu-ray to HDD" is performed using the "HD Decrypter" option, which is free.

Not sure what's going on with the free version and BluRay. Over the last few months BluRay to hard disk access has changed with each version. Right now I've tried a number of versions that have worked in the past as well as the new version 6205. I get nothing. DVD stuff still works but not BluRay. Maybe next month will be different.

I know the free version is 'free' and it's not nice to complain when somebody gives you something for free but with the number of questions like above about the free versions no longer working and nothing on the authors web site about any change in policy re: BluRay, I just went with AnyDVD.
In a sense, I did feel like a traitor because I have made use of the free versions for quite a while, but because of the confusion I thought it might be best to just move on. Seems like a lot of stuff that used to work just fine just don't work all that well any more. PowerDVD would be a good example of that comment.

  5. I just tried opening in "HD Decrypter" mode but when I clicked on "Start DVDFab" it automatically changed to "Blu-ray to Blu-ray" mode. Using lastest version 6.2.0.5. Also, I have never been able to copy a Blu-ray to HDD except when the free trial was available. That's why when I started backing up my blu-rays I switched to AnyDVD. They are pretty good at keeping it updated.

Thanks for all the replies. I do choose the HD Decrypter when I start, and then try to copy the BR to my hard drive. But then it says that the BR to BR option has expired. Oh well, I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, but I am not the only one having this problem.

I also like AdyDVD a lot, but it's rather expensive, so I was looking for a free or cheap, simple BD ripper.

Have to see what happens with the next release.
Seems to me that they have been working on a different strategy to increase paid participation. They used to have a paid version and a free version. Than they went to a free trial version that was renewable monthly. In a month or two maybe it'll all be sorted out.

Not if you buy the lifetime membership. I paid something like a $100 a few months ago. If you think about that, even if you only use the software for 3 years, thats only $3 a month.

  10. If you are really looking for free software, try DumpHD or MakeMKV. https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/decrypters-bd-hd-dvd?orderby=Type Both of those are freeware, whether they work as good as AnyDVD, I have no idea.

Thanks. I tried MakeMKV and it worked fine. I'll take a look at DumpHD as well.

This is what I get, but I select the HD Decrypter option and then press the button and it opens what appears to be the full product, well, trial version. There's no sign of just being able to use the decrypter directly.

Does anyone know whether you need to try all the bits and pieces and have them all expire before HD Decrypter becomes available or what?

Apart from being really confusing, this looks pretty decent.

Just checked out the MakeMKV website. Looks a lot like DVD Decrypter However one thing it does say is that all the functionality is free while the program is still in Beta.

  14. I had the same issue with BD disks... my problem was that the Blue-ray portion of my Lite-on drive died after less then 10hrs. New BD drive - Plextor this time - and problem was solved without changing the software at all.

The DVD portion on the Lite-on still worked perfect... but I returned it for a refund.

Plextor doesn't manufacture their own drives anymore. It's been like that for years now. They used at one time rebadged PIONEER's but PIONEER no longer manufactures their drives too. Both PIONEER & Plextor now use SAMSUNG or LITEON drives.

  16. budz - that is good to know...
However my point was that I got the exact same error msg in DVD Decrypter as stated in the original post with a dead Blue-ray portion of my first drive. I was puzzled at first because DVD ripping still worked perfect. DVD Decrypter didn't tell me that it can't read the BD, instead please update...
