  1. I had to re-encode some MPEG files to VCD compliant MPEG. The videos were out of sync so had to use TMPGENC to re-sync the mpeg. Then I used the Panasonic MPEG encoder to encode the re-synced MPEG to VCD compliant streaming MPEG. I watched both the original and VCD ready MPEG and didn't notice any difference.
Did I loose any quality in the process? Doesn't seem possible considering these are digital files.
I'm knew at the VCD game so, any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

  2. I am having to re-encode xVCD for audio problems as well. I think that re-encoding does loose some quality. Its my opinion that the re-encoded xVCD's only look about 90% as good as the original. This could be because I am mad about having to re-encode so I am looking at the through angry eyes and there really is no difference in quality.

One of us should look at a few frames from our files both before and after re-encoding to see if there is a difference the same frame after the file has been re-encoded.

I'll let you know if I ever get around to examining my files frame by frame.

I think you'll find that any time you re-compress, you lose some information. If it's not visible, who cares!
