    Hi,

I am having a hard time figuring out the best method to rip videos. I want the best possible quality and in full screen.

Right now I have my PC hooked up to my LCD TV, trying to test different methods and formats. It is driving me nuts.

The only rip conversion I found that has good quality and is in full screen is 1440x1080, however I have many videos which are not in HD and they sometimes look funky with this up-convert.

Lately been doing 720x576 however the video leaves a few inches on the boarders. (The quality seems to be the best for old VHS stuff)

In Short I want to rip the videos to look and play back just like normal TV.

Help, and if you could show examples / the settings (specs) on how the video was ripped.

Also looking for the best program to rip videos it needs to be able to edit the color/brightness and crop the video before the rip.

  2. We need more info:
    What are you ripping?
    What HDTV do you have?
How do you have your PC hooked up(HDMI,VGA.etc)?
What software player are you using?
What video codec are you using?
Is your PC output set to 1366x768?
Your tv out should be the same resolution as your tv, if your LCD native resolution is 1920x1080 then output that.
If these are homemade DVD's then you don't need to "rip", just drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder. I don't know if it's the best but VideoStudio is what I use.

    MOVIEGEEK,

This is all new to me, I want the play back to play like a full screen DVD on any PC or TV.

I have a few players loaded on the PC, but normally use windows media player

    TV is a 1080 Samsung 1920x1080

Video Codec dont really know what that is:

Right now only hooked up VGA will more than likely upgrade cables

Start with setting display card VGA to 1920x1080 if possible. If that doesn't work, try DVI-D to HDMI cable and set display card to 1920x1080i or 1080p if the TV accepts it.

By "full screen" you mean with side bars? This is how a 16:9 TV displays 4:3 "full screen" video. For DVD (MPeg2) spec, you would encode 720x480 (NTSC), 720x576 (PAL) without wide flag.

  5. 1.If you have a desktop then get a HD videocard(eg ATI HD 4650) and use HDMI, if you are stuck with VGA then set your monitor to 1366x768 or 1920x1080.
    2.Use MPCHC, WMP is bad.

Any reason you are using PAL resolution and you appear to be in the US? NTSC is 720x480.

Eh? You don't have any choice. You watch them at the resolution of your TV set. Didn't you say it was 1920x1080? Any videos sent to the TV not already at that resolution will be upscaled to 1920x1080.
