    is there a way to cut commercials from a video that is already compressed to h264 without having to re encode it?

    Yes, you can cut on I frames (half to several seconds depending on GOP length) or use a "smart render" editor like Womble that re - encode the affected GOP only.

    Hi fuzzypants,

    If you have a transport stream, then try TSPE which will not re-encode any frame and will cut on I or P frames.

    While Womble is a "smart" MPEG2 editor, I don't think it edits H.264 yet.
