    Hi,

Been using the Job Queue feature in AutoGK. I have ripped a few episodes off a DVD using DVD Shrink, and kept 1 subtitle stream. When playing the IFO file in Windows Media Player, the subtitles are there, but unfortunately, when I load the IFO into AutoGK and select the subtitle file and export the video, the end result doesn't have the subtitles at all, hardcoded or even a .sub file.

It's weird because my first video has it (E01), but my second one (E02), and any there-on doesn't. It doesn't matter if I do the second video first, and the first video second, the E01 file will, and the E02 file won't, even though E02 was encoded first.

I've also tried only doing the single E02 file, but still no luck.

I know the subtitles are there because the IFO/VOB file plays with it, but it doesn't encode it in AutoGK.

I have turned the "Display only forced subtitles" option off as well.

Have attached the log file for both the first video (E01) that worked with the subtitles, and the second video (E02) which didn't.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. Most likely the problem is that the subtitle timings haven't been reset for the 2nd and subsequent episodes. That is, the timings for the second episode will begin after the length of the first episode, rather than restarting at zero.

    You have several choices:

    1. Take each episode's subs and set a negative delay equal to the total length of all the episodes before that one. You can do this to the IDX yourself following the included instructions, or have SubtitleCreator do it.
    2. Go find subs for the episodes online where the timing problem has been fixed and add them to the episodes using the CTRL/F8 trick.
    3. Use PGCDemux to get a SUP file for each of the episodes (the timings will be correct for them), convert to IDX/SUB (VobSubs) using SubtitleCreator, and use those for the episodes using the CTRL/F8 trick. You'll probably want to fix the sub colors and position using VobSub Configure before doing the encoding. Run AutoGK's Preview before encoding to make sure everything is to your liking.
    4. Encode all the episodes together as one giant AVI and split them afterwards. For a couple of reasons I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing this, although the subs will be there and in synch.

Here's how to do the CTRL/F8 trick:

Thank you for the reply! I will do this and let you know how it goes.
Question though, why is it that even if I select any single IFO file and jsut do it individually, which I was going to do other than bulk encoding, it still doesn't work for any episodes but the first?

Could I have stuffed up when ripping them with DVD Shrink, even though they're appearing when played in WMP?

Thanks agian for your help manono! Life saver!

I'm trying method 3 out, but after getting the SUP file from PGCDemux, SubtitleCreator doesn't let me import the .sup file it created. It said it's an unsupported file type?

Sorry for the inconvenience.. am I doing something wrong?

If I've opened SUP files in SubtitleCreator once, I've probably done it 200 times. Are you using an old SubtitleCreator? I don't know if mine is the most recent version or not, but it works and works well to open PGCDemux generated SUP files with File->Open Subtitle. I'm using version 2.3rc1.

As I tried to explain, but I guess not very well, the subs for each episode after the first haven't had their timings reset. Say each episode is 30 minutes long. The first episode's subs start sometime after zero, the second episode's subs start sometime after the 30 minute mark, the 3rd after the hour mark, etc. But when you encode each episode separately, each one begins at zero. So the subs actually begin after the 2nd and subsequent episodes are already finished. Just have a look at the timestamps for the 2nd and later episodes. Open the IDX using Notepad.

Did you say something about AutoGK not even creating any subs for the later episodes? If you can't open the SUP files in SubtitleCreator, try opening them in SupViewer, just as a test, since you can't convert them to VobSubs using that program.

I downloaded the one from this link: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/SubtitleCreator (direct download), which is 2.2.

Will try the one off the official website (2.3rc1 as you said).

    ~

Yeah sorry I didn't understand correctly first. I get what you mean, but even after re-installing AutoGK, and selecting say the second or third episode, and doing them 1 by 1 (skipping the first as it works already), it still didn't generate the subtitles onto the video.

Oh well, something's going wrong. Even tried installing the new VobSub codec just incase with no luck.

Will give the 2.3rc1 version of SubtitleCreator a go.

Okay, SubtitleCreator 2.3 worked in opening SUP files (2.2 didn't).

On another note, is there a way to set the colors so they match what was originally on the DVD? Do they get stored in the SUP file? If not, how do I make color changes to more than 1 subtitle at a time?

On another note, i exported the subs and put them into AutoGK just to test as-is.. After exports, the video appeared with "white boxes" on the whole screen (from top sub to bottom sub, since the top is japanese, and bottom is english).

Any way to get rid of these white background boxes completely? I can only see how to change color, not make it transparent.

Thanks again for your help manono Hopefully I'm not getting to annoying with all these questions.

I'm not at my encoding computer at the moment, but after opening the SUP file, go back and "File->Open Pallette". Something like that. That should apply the colors as stored in the IFOs to your subs.

However, and apparently you've already run into the problem, there may be a bug in SubtitleCreator because sometimes you get those backgrounds not being transparent, as they're supposed to be. In that case SupViewer can fix the colors and backgrounds to your liking. I haven't run into the problem you're having, but another fellow I was helping did have the problem and fixed it with SupViewer:

You can also fix the colors and transparencies of SUP files using DVDSubEdit. There's a very good manual included. You can fix the colors and positioning (but not the transparancies) of VobSubs (IDX/SUB) using VobSub Configure (included as part of the VobSub package).

    Thank you!
I ended up using SimpleDivX to make a .sub file. AutoGK seems better in terms of encoding the video/audio, and SimpleDivX makes a .sub file automatically with correct transparencies and colors from the IFO file. So will use this method (takes an extra 3 minutes, but I guess it's a lot easier).

Thanks again for your help - so much trouble just to make backups of DVD videos.. gosh
