    Hello group
I am perplexed which of the available freebie video player is best:
Is it GOM player, KMP or VLC.
I would like to use one that has the best features for playing a wider range of video with HD capability.
    TIA

VLC, Zoom Player Pro and MPC-HC are my present favorites. I like Zoom for all the different configuration adjustments. MPC-HC for HD MKV and VLC for playing what the others won't play. I also use TMT3 for Blu-ray playback, but I don't like it much. But better than PowerDVD/WinDVD, IMO.

    None are 'best' or perfect.

  4. I like TME (Digital Theater) for Blu-Ray and AVCHD, and MPCHC for everything else.

Redwudz, I'm curious why you don't like TMT3. I've found Digital Theater to be perfectly satisfactory, is it not similar to TMT? I haven't tried TMT3, although I had TMT2, which I disliked.

fritzi93, It's very slow to load a BD for HDMI playback. Every time I breathe on the mouse, the time line bar comes on. I have to turn my mouse over to get it to quit. I prefer to use the mouse wheel for volume control, same as my other players, but the mouse wheel is FF/RW and you have to bring up the time line bar to adjust the volume. All I want is a simple BD player. I turned all the extra features off and it's only set for BD playback.

Admittedly, minor stuff. PowerDVD was twice as slow loading.

PowerDVD is still great for MPEG and DVDs. PowerDVD is better than GOM, VLC, etc for quick preview of MPEG files. Others lag.

like other said there is no best player
For me number 1 is Splash for its video quality.
Its very easy to use and provides best video quality for upscalled video and interlaced, best look and feel.
Its the fastest player to run and start video playback... But it does not play wmv in example :/

Hmm would it be better to instal two to three video players(( instead of one )and would it not cause codec conflict?
Are there any incompatibility between players such as
    GOM Vs VLC
    VLC vs KMP
    SMP Vs KMP
    Etc?

It usually work fine to have several players installed. Especially ones that have built in codecs like vlc, smplayer, mpchc. I use them all without any problems.

    Just avoid MEGA codec packs.

    Hmm thanks...
this reminds me of past experience with my other PC where the GOM player,MPC, Windows media player and winDVD and Power DVd where there seems to be a codec conflict ..
Even the codec sniper can't run in it to check what was wrong as the video player had gone haywire and can't play any video anymore.
Do you mean about the K-lite codec , or is this something to do with it?
How about the IIRC, CCCP codec...
I seems to recognize a lot of codec compatibility with some video player.
VLC and GOm seems not work compatibly....

Another related question...how about the Matroska pack would it be compatible with most vedio player codecs...

Mainly using KM Player - plays everything I need and has a good UI.
Secondary, using MPC HC (I like that it is self-contained) and VLC (just in case).
I used before GOM player. It has great play controls, but had some issues with subtitles of some mkv content.

    Hmm thanks. USTA

You corroborate my experience with these two players, I used to have GOM before but the subtitle issue made me quit and transfer to KMP player.
Then KMP produced thei AVI issue where the avi chunk viewer keep popping up in some video which did not happen in GOM

Would it not cause any conflict if I use KMP and SM player?

Baldrick may I know what is peculiar about MEGA codec packs, I used it for a short time never noticed it has incompatibility

  15. Codec packs are notorious for causing problems, sometimes it's bad enough that a format/re-install is the only option. (Like the the Nimo Codec Pack. Curse you Nimo! )

Just because you got away with it once doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Would there be any conflict in codecs if TMT or TME is installed along side with WinDVD and Power DVD?
Which is better TMT or TME?
