    Hi guys,

I need help fixing my friend's corrupted video file that she can't open.. After browsing through all the webpages I find this forum most promising, hopefully I can get some help here ><

The corrupted file is saved in .mov file, somehow it's the only file that doesn't open. When I tried using QT7, error code "2048 - Couldn't open the file because it is not a file that Quicktime understands" appears. I used MediaInfo it couldn't seem to detect the container info except its size and that it's in Quicktime format.

I have tried all sorts of recovery tools and media players (e.g. VLC, MPC, SMPlayer...too many to recall) but none that helped to recover a working file, so I have given up on that.

So now...I have decided to manually hexedit the file by copying the footer (which seems to be missing from the bad video) from a working video taken using the same camera. However, I need help in detecting where exactly the footer of the working file starts from...

I'm a beginner to hex-edit, and I only starting touching it because I want to fix this video. It is sentimental and means alot to my friend. Please, help me!

Here is a screenshot of both the hex codes of working and non-working file, don't know if it helps but I hope you can point me in the right direction...All helps are VERY MUCH appreciated... Tell me if you need more information, thanks!
    This is start of file:

    Welcome darkie1213

Yikes! ... good start ... anyway

Some handy info > inside mov

More > Atoms, Boxes, Parents, Children & hex ... basic structure design and characters

Be targeting all below "moov" ... it looks aka ... completely shot ... but then I cannot tell if "moov" exists in the none working file from those shots as it would be higher in the data

Hi Bjs, thanks for the links I'll look through them later =)

The "moov" exists in the nonworking file about halfway up the data, does that mean I should copy everything below "moov" in working file to the nonworking file?

p.s. I forgot to mention the nonworking file size is about 120mb
