Hi
Can anybody help me with this problem?
I have over 2000 mpg files all at the same volume. I have reciently changed to multiple sources where i buy my videos from and the volume is different from all the sources.
At the moment i encode all my mpg files with tmpeng to get the video in the right format.
Is there a process or some software out there that will allow me to get all the new mpg files to the same level as the 2000 mpg files that are already on my system?
p.s. I really do not want to have to reconvert/normalize/etc my previous 2000 mpg files. Can i not just convert the new files to the previous volume levels?
A few questions
1. If i normalize all the new mpg files, will this get all the new mpg files to the same volume level?
2. Is there a way i can specify 1 of the original 2000 mpg files and find out the volume level and then when encodeing the rest set them all to the same level. ( obviously i would need some software for this any ideas what or how?)
3. Has anyboy got any ideas how i could accomplish this.
Many Thanks

normalizing may help, but it only takes into account the loudest sound and moves the entire tracks audio level up to make the loudest noise 0db(or whatever you want). audio tracks with a wide dynamic range won't change much, but audio tracks with a narrow range will become really loud all the time.
other than having an audio engineer listen to and adjust each video individually i don't know of a way to make them all sound similar.--

To add to what aedipuss wrote, this endeavor will be tedious and you have two options:
1.Reencode the video to reset the volume level, audio sync will be fine but the video quality may suffer. Most NLE's can use smart-render so as not to reencode the video.
2.Demux the audio and use an audio editor(eg Goldwave) to normalize, video quality won't be effected but the audio may lose sync when muxed with the video.
Setting the audio level to -15dB is recommended but the results aren't like using MP3Gain on MP3 files, the volume will still have loud peaks such as explosions.
