craigarta has no idea what kind of computer you're using (you haven't mentioned any of the specs here or filled them in in the Computer Details in your profile). There could be a bottleneck somewhere that's bogging down Xvid4PSP for you.

What kind of video are you attempting to convert, and to what format?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

No problems on my win 7 64bit system. What version are you using? Official or FCP ?

Like with me I'm using the FCP version and granted it can take just under 3 hours for a 30 minute video with a 2 pass encode.

I could be faster if I had more ram, but I'm ok with it and I'm running Widows 7 Ultimate X64

I have reverted to 5.0.36 on my W7 machines because I have been getting consistent audio sync problems with mpeg-2 PS to MP4 (PS3 profile) conversions using 5.0.37 (official). I would not say that the conversions are any slower than when running under XP though (same system - dual boot)

I wondered if I was the only person who has consistent A/V sync problems with XviD4PSP! I will definitely try the older 5.0.36 and see if it works better.

I have a dual boot XP and Win7 and Win7 takes more than twice the time to encode vob to x.264 mkv files.

    Me too!

Just went to FCP figuring it had the lastest x264 stuff. Was looking to start testing with x264 soon. Been using Xvid4PSP for DVD stuff for quite a while and never had problems...
    Have a good one,

  13. Yep Xvid4psp version 5.10.330.0 takes more then 7hr's for ONE mkv video to recode (mp4 to mkv wiht burned in subs).
Avidemux? nope not a solution at all, the thing crashes all the time just by looking at it.

So there's no such thing as a stable and fast converter??? Bouth look promising but one is too slooowwwww and the other is too buggy.

Looks i'm stopping converting, because to much different buggy tools to install ore way to slow, and to much time consuming that is can use in a better way then searching and trying to convert a descent backup.
Just making backups again from DVD to DVD, done in 20 minutes and it plays on every machine.
And back to Divx backups, because that works on every TV, DVD divx supported player with the original subs of the DVD movie (idx). No more time consuming converting idx subs to ass, ssa, srt and ho knows what else.

Why burned in subs you ask? Divx gives the subs like you play a DVD, good readable, no probs here.
MKV and MP4 bad support on TV for subtitles, only support text based an therefor on most players and TV's verry tiny to read.
Not for me but for older people to way small, and sometimes when you look at a movie with lots of snow in it, not readable at all.
So for me back to DVD's an Divx. All the rest is verry badley supported and a wast of time.

  14. And wy is it that these devolopers still staying in the win98 and xp age? Common we had vista, win7 and now win8 and soon win8.1. Why making tools where you have to downgrate your windows framework???

    (Sorry for necro-threading.)

Many recent MKV files will crash Avidemux. One quick and painless way around this is to drag and drop the file into MKVToolNix's MKVmerge window, and output an identical MKV. This should take seconds. This file with an appended "(1)" in the filename should open up nicely in Avidemux.

Your machine is running only with one core, as original factory default ?
...or is running with all the cores ?
My laptop W-7 x64 is running with 8.

Run > msconfig > Enter > Boot tab > Advanced Options > "Check" Number of Processors (choose the highest #) > OK > OK > Restart

    Agree:
Drag & Drop is the best way to go with most programs, in stead of searching, etc. since it set the program to their best possible setting automatically.
