I'm trying to find a copy of the press release Memorex issued in 2004 or 2005, effectively apologizing for having crappy blank DVDs, claiming it was an isolated incident that won't happen again.
Yes, yes ... I know..... funny.
Does anybody happen to have a copy?
Or maybe you're better at Google than I am? Or better luck with keywords...
I used to have one, but it's lost.
Some of my docs were on a crashed drive, between backups, back in '04, this may be part of that group.

I think you're thinking of Ritek. I don't remember Memorex having ever apologized for anything.

Best I could do is at: http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/media/dvd-media-concepts.htm
The article mentions: "In the past few years, at least two companies (one was a manufacturer, the other was a re-brander) have had to appologise ..."
Perhaps contacting someone at digitalfaq would yield the actual names.Andrew Jackson: "It's a poor mind that can only think of one way to spell a word." -

That's not entirely accurate.
At any rate, the release is no longer in the digitalFAQ research, and I can't seem to find it anymore on the Memorex site. Once upon a time, it was linked (and maybe quoted) on this site, but I can't find it through Google search. The internal forum search doesn't go that far back.
Ritek never really apologized for anything, they deflected blame, concerning their snafu many years ago. Memorex outright apologized for having crappy media, although they also did some passing of the buck to unnamed manufacturers (we all know it was CMC).Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

LS if I had any info I'd gladly help you. Unfortunately I don't. I just got a laugh when I read Verify's comment about contacting someone at digitalfaq. At least he was trying to be helpful.
Sorry I can't help though.Donadagohvi (Cherokee for "Until we meet again") -
yeah, I tried a search of memorex using google site option and nothing. Their press releases only seem to go back like 13 months
And yes, I was being a smart arse with my comment above -
i found press releases from these years but it's not one of them. i'll try for more recent ones, but when imation bought them they seem to have gutted the website.

Yes, it was a formal press release on the Memorex site.

The online archive does not appear to be a complete record of releases, only what appears to be cherry-picked ones. The original release may not have been indexed on one of those pages.
