    hi

ive burned a bunch of avi files on several datawrite dvd discs, ive used nero 7 and the verify feature and had no problems. recently i wanted to play these discs when i put them in laptop they spin for a while and stop and they dont show us as a disc with any avi files. ive also tried the discs in pc and the same thing happens this disc wont read so there is no way of opening and playing the files.

there are no scratches on the discs, but i do notice like a burn circle midway on the disc. ive used close to 4.7gb capacity on all discs.

is there a way i can retrieve the files on disc? is there a way i can get the pc to read them atleast that way i can back up the files.

    thanks

Nero "verify" is unreliable, results are useless.

On the other hand, laptop DVD drives are notoriously picky. The drive may not like burned media.

Datawrite discs are also lower quality media, harder to read by DVD players, ROMs and burners.

Find a computer burner that is good, use ISO Puzzle, and get an image off. Re-burn to better media with ImgBurn.

    Good luck.

    The most important question is:
"Are we talking a DATA disc with .avi files on it or are we talking a DVD VIDEO with those .avi files converted to DVD Video format?

This sounds ominous to me. When I've seen something on my discs that looks like this, the disc has been a coaster.

lordsmurf's advice is sound and hech54's question needs to be answered. If you burned a true data disc with AVI files on it, are you sure that you closed the disc? If your burning software did an AVI to DVD conversion, it should have closed the disc for you after burning, but I guess I can't say with 100% certainty that that happened.
