    Hi.

I'm using AviDemux2 to encode xvid-files with a target-size of 700MB. Thereby I am required to enter the target-size for video only. I tried using Videohelp's bitrate calculator, VideoCalc as well as Nic's MiniCalc (that comes with xvid) but they all seem to disregard the avi-overhead which results in files that are about 705MB...

How can I calculate the size of the avi-overhead?

I don't know how to calculate it exactly and I'm not sure if anyone else here does, but this is no way to live your life. Stop being one of those people who thinks that some terrible thing has happened if their encode sizes are not 100% exactly what they wanted. If you would just encode at a slightly smaller size this would work.

Here are some possible solutions to your problem.
    1) Encode for a size of 695 MB. If your encodes add 5 MB of overhead then your total file size should be around 700 MB. Why did you not think of this yourself?
    2) Burn a CD in overburn mode. Burn at the slowest possible speed and your CDs should be able to burn 705 MB in overburn mode.
    3) Buy 90 minute CD-Rs on the internet and burn to those discs.

AviDemux has a built-in calculator....one of the few that actually works correctly too....

Thanks for the quick replies, guys.

jman93 - I did NOT freak out over a few MB if that is the impression you got from my post. The solutions you provided are very reasonable and yes, I did think of them myself. Still, I am curious to know how the avi-overhead is being calculated (just trying to expand my knowledge here). If calculating the exact overhead is not possible then so be it... I didn't know that.

hech54 - thanks for bringing that to my attention. I feel kinda stupid for overseeing it . And indeed the AviDemux calculator seems to take into account the overhead.

It's the ONLY one I use when I need an exact size.....and you're welcome.
And don't forget to hit "apply" in the calculator.
