    Question, I have CS4, Pinnacle 14 and Vegas 9.

When I edit in DV, I can edit, scrub and playback through the camcorder, thus use an external TV to see the video.

In HDV, I can only see the video through the camcorder when I print to tape, thus all editing, scrubbing and previews must be done on the computer screen, not as good of an option as a TV set, plus I must re-render every time and start from the beginning. I cannot just select a scene and preview, it is all or nothing. The controls do not function when playing back HDV

The camera is properly set to HD mode, and I have 4 cameras, it is the same with all of them.

Can anyone bring me up to speed here? All setting are in order. Pinnacle support tells me that external playback option is not offered with HD editing. Is this the scoop?

    Many thanks! Tim

Thanks Ed, So it appears by more hardware is the solution? This one caught me by surprise. A real pain editing in HD.

Vegas 9 pro also supports monitoring out the DVI-D display card output but this requires card driver and monitor calibration.

The big boys edit uncompressed or with digital intermediates and monitor off SDI.
