  1. Hi all,

I have been trying to download a video for months, and finally found this thread. Is this as simple as me posting the link to the video and someone helping me download it? I went to this summer camp as a kid and am amused that MTV made a True Life out of it... and I'd love to keep a copy before it comes down. I've tried several free softwares and nothing seems to work... it looks like this type of swf download isn't doable on a mac. Is that right? If someone could download it for me in any file type, I'd figure out how to convert it to a mac-friendly file on my own, and I'd be forever grateful.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Channel 4 uses either so-called secure RTMPE which can be downloaded and Adobe HDS with Flash Access DRM which cannot be de-encrypted currently. Increasingly sites seem to be switching to this as it's much more secure.

    Hi ALL,

Could someone to help me with this video stream: http://ultimatv.net/index.php?id=cartoonnetwork?

I use to download video from it with next script:
    Code:
    rtmpdump -r "rtmpe://94.242.221.103/42_hd/channel_42_hd.stream" -p http://clients.cdnet.tv/flashbroadcast.php?channel=1042&session=MPxy6VLoeX0bRBgXzFc3phDN6dSoDbhg&date=1352764650 -W http://clients.cdnet.tv/flashplayer/player.swf -f "WIN 11,4,402,287" -T "Ys#QBn%3O0@l1" -o TesT.flv
But recently this site changed SWF player and I give up to make this script to work. It looks like security token was changed but I have no idea how
to extract it from new player. Any help is very appreciated

That's ominous news, if this is becoming prevalent. Someone in this thread recently mentioned that Tubedigger no longer works, for several sites where it used to work quite recently (?) Is this going to leave us with no viable options, or will hacker-type ingenuity once again come to the rescue ?

  12. Does RTMPdump set downloads to the max resolution? I'm trying to get 1080p, but it's downloading at 720p.
I think it may have something to do with bandwidth speeds?

  13. RtmpDump only downloads what it's told too...

What you mean is does the sofware that calls RtmpDump select the highest resolution? Usually no, it's only whats playing in the browser. If the browser is playing at 720p then thats what it will download.

If you can force the higher res to play it will capture that instead

Yes, that's what I meant. How would I force 1080p? Would I need to modify the link?

he's trying to view content that is region restricted. i couldn't access it either. even if you have the familiar

    http://o-o---preferred---sn-

string, the process is halted. i think part of the confusion is that people are being misslead into believing that they can bypass this problem easily. if i can't get to bbc content, what makes anyone believe this guy can even though his content isn't bbc. i'm just saying..based on my own experience.

i wonder when yt starting region-resticking content. i only discovered this since the begining of the 2012 london olympics

Apart from having a faster connection, if theres no option to choose higher bitrate then it becomes difficult; It depends on where and what the video is. Some sites openly display pages of data usually in XML format that contains details of the streams and bitrates in which case you can URL snoop the page (usually mediaselection/mediaselector/playlist) and use that in a modified RtmpDump string. Other sites hide their XML data serverside and you have to use packet sniffing techniques i.e. WireShark to try and phish the relevent data. Another alternative is to dump the Browser memory and search for relevent strings.

Its a bit of an arcane art to be honest and theres no clear or simple rules. And none of it is easy.

Thanks for that, I assumed that since he'd already tried RtmpDump that he was in the region that wasn't restricted.... so in that case he'll need a proxy for that country at the very least and possibly a VPN. No idea what the country is though but since it appears to be in French I'd guess it was either France or Canada.

O/T are the Olympics still restricted on YouTube? I know I'm in the UK but I thought they had been de-restricted...

so far, i can view them as long as i'm at the yt webpage. my original issue with viewing them had to do with a yt player app that i'm developing. those videos are webpage-blocked and won't play in my player window unless i go directly to their page to play it there--so they can track/count the views and other statistics. but if i have the http://o-o---preferred---sn- link then i can view or d/l them through my app.

  19. Hi, total noob here but I wanted to save a stream in the highest possible quality and I tried absolutely everything unsuccessfully. So I'm at my wit's end...the stream is at:
    TV5 link

The site uses delvenetworks. I have tried RTMPExplorer, RTMPDumpHelper, URLSnooper to no avail. Actually, saving the mp4 file is pretty easy, I could even do it without any of those tools but the resulting file is in low resolution (270p @ 447 kbps). I wanted to save the file in 576p @ 1197 kbps (the highest available resolution). I realize bahman has performed miracles on similar streams before but even using his advice, I have been unable to get the high resolution file.

Can anyone help? Thanks so much!!

    Use Tubedigger.
    It starts with an ad.
Important- right click on video while ad is playing to get options and select 576 p at 1197 kbps option.
Note that the ad will download at whatever resolution it was playing when you right clicked on it, but the main video will download at 576p 1197 kbps.

Thanks...but it doesn't seem to work. Even if I choose the 576p at 1197 kbps option when the ad is running, the video still starts playing in 270p at 447 kbps and downloads at that resolution. I tried both in Firefox and Internet Explorer, as well as Tubedigger but I get the same result every time.

    Any other ideas?

what are you opening Firefox or Internet explorer for?
Just open Tubedigger, paste the link you have given. Wait for ad to start playing, right click on video to get the options, click on option you want. Right click again while ad is still playing, it should be playing in the resolution you selected. Download will continue in lower resolution. When main video starts, right click and check, it will be playing in resolution you selected, and Tubedigger will download in resolution specified.

If the video doesn't start playing in a higher resolution, possibly your internet speed may be too slow, and the site is not allowing you to play/download at higher resolution because of that.

I downloaded full video- see details below. My internet speed is 8 mbps.

What I meant was that, no matter if I was opening the video in Internet Explorer, Firefox or Tubedigger, it didn't matter which resolution I selected while the ad was playing. The video would start playing in "Auto select" mode everytime so the bitrate would sometimes be 447 kbps and sometimes 1197 kbps. Whichever tool I used to download it (Tubedigger, RTMPExplorer, RTMPDumpHelper, etc.) the video would be downloaded in low resolution. I'm not sure how you did it...do you still have the clip's URL?

My connection speed is 3 Mbps but that is more than sufficient to play the video at the highest possible resolution. Most of the time when I start playing it, the player switches the video to 1197 kbps automatically. Even when I select the option to force 1197 kbps, I can watch it just fine so I suppose speed is not the issue. However, Tubedigger seems to be using Internet Explorer, I don't think it has its own integrated browser. Perhaps the issue is with the fact that I still have IE6. I don't normally use Internet Explorer so I never downloaded any newer versions. Should I try installing IE8 instead?
    Quote Quote
  26. Alright, here's an update: downloading the high res video using TubeDigger finally worked! BUT...I found out that the only time I could set the bitrate to 1197 kbps before the video started was when the Chevrolet ad was playing. If any other ad was playing, setting the video to any bitrate had no effect at all. It would start in "Auto select" mode and I would have to change the bitrate afterwards, eliminating the possibility for Tubedigger (or any other tool) to download in high-res. This is truly bizarre.

  27. @madk - I was able to download the vid in Coojah, and the overall file size was 448MB. I can send you a multi-part .rar from mediafire if you want.

edit: Never mind, see you got it.

  28. Thanks so much for your help guys! And supagui1 thanks for the offer
Actually, nevermind what I said about the Chevrolet ad...it turns out what I needed to do was to select the resolution before the ad even starts. When doing that, both RTMPExplorer and Tubedigger did the trick. If I select the resolution after the ad starts playing, then I can't make a selection until the main video starts.

But I guess the way this works is the server probably has separate mp4 files for every resolution/bitrate (so 5 or 6 in total) and streams the one you choose in real-time and can switch between mp4 files as needed. If that's the case, there must be a way to extract the clip's URL based on which version is playing at any given time. There's gotta be an easier way than jumping through all those hoops

It looks like file names for all resolutions are the same. I was able to change playing resolution while video was playing, but Tubedigger didn't start another download (as it happens with other sites) saying that file was already being downloaded.

Regardless of anything, being quick on one's feet figuratively speaking, is often the difference between success and failure in downloading streaming videos
