I was recently looking for a science program broadcast either on NGC or
the Sci Channel two years ago on DVD or a rebroadcast. It was produced
by the BBC in 2004. I discovered a site called downarchive.com that has it.
The site isn't exactly clear, at least, upon my initial read, how this
works. The program of interest, Light Fantastic, is in four 50 minute
segments. Each segment looks like 6-8 downloads. There's a free version
of the download software, and it looks like one subscribes to this
download service for periods of 30, 90, 180 or 365 days at a cost that
may be in pounds. Maybe their s/w pieces the individual downloads into
one 50 min DVD file which can be burned onto a DVD disk?

That's actually a warez site, which we specifically don't discuss here.
Ask any questions at that site's forum.

My trouble with YouTube is something of a personal preference for a DVD in this case.

When the series was originally played, I thought I had captured all four parts. Somehow it was only two. It was a very well produced show. I've tried reaching the host, Simon Shaffer, but no luck (no e-mail address), and tried the BBC. The BBC doesn't have it on DVD. There's an educational version for $500. Another similar effort by the BBC was shown almost at the same time, Atom, three parter. Same problem there. I caught 2 of 3. Surprisingly one of the science channels showed a single hour, but not under the name Atom. Jim Al-Khalili was the host. They used the name of one of the episodes instead.

Hard to believe whoever showed them hasn't repeated them. They were both superb.

I don't like the idea of taking copyrighted info off the web, so would shun joining their forum.

Well, one of these days I'll get in touch with the hosts and see if they have a clue about any rebroadcast.
