Maybe try an updated version of DVDFab HD Decrypter , seeing as the latest version, 6.1.2.5, was released 4 days before you posted.

Once you've created the file, use DVD Shrink 32 in ReAuthor mode to open it. You'll find (in the Aust. version anyway) 99 titles and about 10 menus. Title 21 is the only one you'll need (as it's the only one containing the movie in correct chapter sequence) and it can be backed up to your HDD / media player / archive.

You just got to figure out which one is the right one, which in the case of the region 2 version is title 19.
indeed file 21 to me (pal dutch) riped whit dvd fab(total film) and then open in shrink re author mode and you see the file numbers and times of each file and you can even play them then (to enlarge screen at that moment rightmouse on smal filmwindow(in shrinkre authormode). so maybe its just question of moving nummber 21 to nero (nero essentials for me) to make good copy(havent done that yet) (if you rip it you must do it on a harddrive that has 40g plus free space to spare because of all the double stuff on this dvd)

    1. Use only Dvdfab 5 to Rip
    2. Use main Movie Feature (not full disc)
    3. Program will defualt to title 24 ( this is file is not to be used)
    4. Choose File 21
    5. Once file is ripped: Drop all files into Nero...
    6. I was up all night figuring this one out...enjoy

DVDFab 5 worked great. I have used DVD Shrink 3.2 to burn and it worked!
    Hope this helps others
    Thanks everyone

I managed to do a backup of the movie itself (Region 2) only using the following:

    AnyDVD 6.5.4.0 and CloneDVD 2.9.2.2

As stated earlier, you have to select title 21 and no other options. You can choose subtitles and languages. Wrote to a single layer dvd and plays fine in my Daewoo DVD/HDD recorder.

As I said this is only the movie. I havent tried any other titles or features.

Hope this helps. Much easier method IMO.

  10. The Protection System used on this DVD is called "X Protect" (www.x-protect.com). AnyDVD seems to be the only program possible to rip those dvds yet. I've tried it yesterday after all the usual suspects failed and it worked perfectly.

I had no problem ripping the movie with DVDFabDecrypter (free version), only with removing the left-over region commands. All menus and extra features play just fine.

    3. DVDFab will choose option 3 (default), don't use it
    4. You must choose option 13 to rip
    5. Start

    Enjoy!

Star Trek (2009) Chris Pine was released in Region 1 today November 17 and I'm acquiring it soon. Despite all the good advice above, I expect it to be difficult to backup. I don't read everything, but haven't noticed any mention that DVDFab or AnyDVD have cracked it for Region 1. Any updates appreciated. Thanks.

As an old time trekker, I also hope the movie lives up to its high billing! I've been watching a lot of junk for a long time, hoping for a good one for a change.

Any recent version of DVDFab rips it just fine. There's a lot junk commands left over but they don't prevent playback on any reasonably modern machine. Some older players had problems.

Wow, everyone seems to be having difficulty with this one. My backup was a breeze! Just used this trusty old method:

    1. Started AnyDVD (latest version)
    2. Started DVD Shrink and selected Re-author as opposed to Full Disc. Shrink automatically selected Title 21. Output to .iso file.
    3. Burn with ImgBurn

    Whola! Easy Peasy!

DVDFab 6.2.0.5 (paid version) worked fine to copy Star Trek (2009), either the full disk or main movie, after the UI settled down.

The last couple of versions of DVDFab are unstable on my XP Home SP3 system. For example: The settings screen oscillates on/off a couple of times before stabilizing. It won't hold settings or stick to the defaults. It tries to revert from DVD9 to DVD5 quality. It gets the number of MB wrong sometimes for the movie to be ripped on the first try. But with persistence (after multiple tries, and perhaps closing/reopening DVDFab) it settles down and works right - for awhile, at least.

    Hey all

All i did was use dvdfab 6.1.2.5
    selected main movie and start
after a moment got a message saying "retry" "ignore" "ignore all" errors
I chose "ignore all" once it had decrypted it..i believe it said there were issues of some kind at that point.
put blank media in and voila done deal watched the back up in fast forward all was well it seemed

  20. I tried to watch this movie but couldn't watch past the point where a baby started crying. Somebody said it was a good movie, so I tried to watch it again. Same problem, I couldn't watch it past where the baby was crying. Not a technical problem, but I just couldn't get interested enough to watch it any further. I think, no matter how you obtain this movie, buy, borrow or otherwise, it is not worth watching. I just hit the delete button and free up 1.4GB on the hard drive.

Unless it has Sylvester Stallone, exploding robots and topless android ladies, I can't connect to movies on an emotional level.

I ripped Star Trek,Dark Knight, and Transformers easily. I got the free vers, DvdFab 6.1.2.5 on Nov. 22nd.

    1. Created folders to send rip files to
    2. Selected "Main Movie"
    3. Selected pre-made file for rip
    4. Clicked Ch.21 for Star Trek(have to "check" the little circle. Not just hi-lite the line of ch.21)
    5. Clicked start

Took about 40min to rip. Closed out DvdFab. Opened up DvdShrink-"Open File"-Selected file-Then "Reauthor". Reauthored film to fit. Hit "Analyze". Then "Back up". And away it went. P.S. I also have DVD DeCrypter which it automatically opened to burn with after creating the ISO.

I did the same thing with D.K. and Trans. As Decrypter wouldn't do those films. DvdFab free vers. smashed those films straight to my HDD!

Open the DVD with Media Player Classic: Let it play through to the menu, then play the feature and note the title number (displayed in the lower window).

I use this process on all of the DVDs using this particular type of protection.

As I ripped Star Trek with DvdFab,I noticed the VTS ch. numbers VTS_09_1.VOB
    09_2
    09_3
    09_4
    09_5
    09_6
    09_7

These numbers showed as it ripped the film. "Main Movie" was selected. That's why I thought that the numbers above was the actual film(ch.21 on the disc)

So,I tried a experiment. I opened DeCrypter and put in Star Trek. Instead of hitting the green arrow to rip the disc. I hi-lighted the chapters listed above. One at at time, and as a group. 09_1. would never rip. Some of the others would. But not 1-7 as a whole. Do you know of a way to grab just "The Film" with DeCrypter without ripping the disc as a whole? Especially a disc that has strong Anti-copy protection a'la Dark Knight & Star Trek, etc.

I use DeCrypter & DvdShrink. And I'm happy with the results I get from them. Thanks

I managed to copy Star Trek with DVDFAB 5 HD Decrypter for REGION 2 (SOUTH-AFRICA / JAPAN / EUROPE).

All you need to do is simply put the original DVD in a dvd player then press the button on your remote that shows the TIME REMAINING and write that down - then open the disck in MAIN MOVIE mode in DVDFAB 5 then you'll see tons of files (put there to confuse you!)

Compare the time that you had written down with all the files on DVDFAB to see which files is the same lenght as the DVD - in this case it was NO. 19 - Pretty easy actually.

Then just let dvdfab 5 do its work and then open the files with dvdshrink and burn it!

I hear the new Pixar movie UP! is a real bitch, too.

    GOOD LUCK!

  28. This is all making me very jealous. Everybody having so much fun copying all these movies. I wish I could get a hold of some copy protected movies in China. I'm missing out on all the copying fun. Yea, I already got the Pixar "Up" movie and Star Trek. Neither movie lasted more than 9 minutes before I hit the delete button. Getting/copying these movies is a lot more fun than watching them.

All joking aside, he has a point. The technical side of ripping & burning is an enjoyable challenge for some of us, but we're often disappointed when watching the movie itself. My good/bad movie ratio is pretty low, on the order of 10%, so I must watch a lot of junk to find even one (1) good movie. You never know til you try it, ratings aren't reliable. However in the case of Star Trek (2009), I thought it was pretty good, worth the time and effort. I can't say about Up, because I don't watch cartoons.
