    Hi,

This is my first post on here and seems like the members are rather active and helpful so I figured it might be a good place to ask. I've had a LaCinema for around 9 months now and never had a problem with it until recently. A few of my movies (AVI files) are not playing properly, the audio and video dont match up, they are about 1-2 secs off. The AVI files play fine on any computer so I know its not a problem with files themselves. Other movies play fine. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions that I can try or look into? Thanks in advance for your help!

Examine the files that are playing badly with something like GSpot....with files that play correctly. The differences between VBR and CBR audio can play havoc with HDD player. Mine only plays CBR. Files with VBR audio load slow and are out of sync with my Maxtor Movie Station.

This GSpot program is great, I've never heard of it before. So I've looked at all the files on my computer here that I've played on my LaCinema and it seems as though all the VBR files are the ones that play fine and the one I had trouble with is the CBR.

So the next question would be....is there anyway to convert from CBR to VBR or is there some sort of codec that can fix this problem?

    Thanks!

You should be able to load the .avi file in AviDemux.....COPY the video and change the audio to CBR (MP3 audio I'm guessing?)....the output will still be .avi (the third drop-down option from the top).
I say should because I don't know what video codec was used....probably xvid, divx?

It could also be a video problem too remember. It's usually NOT but keep that in mind.

Awesome thanks! I'll give this a try and see if it works.

The video codec is XviD 1.0.3

That is bizarre. If your player actually has problems with CBR audio then it is seriously broken. The reason we tell people to check for VBR audio is that many devices can't play VBR audio correctly. I've never heard of a problem with CBR audio. Since you know how to use GSpot, look at the video portion instead. Do you see GMC or QPEL highlighted on the video that doesn't play correctly? That might actually be your problem, not the audio.

So I'm using Avidemux and when I select the MP3 option for Audio and I click configure, only CBR and ABR are my options. I went ahead and saved the video with MP3 just to try it and the new video that I created seems to have the same exact amount of lag when I watch it from my computer now.

Sorry. I didn't pay much attention to your first post and looked at the later post. I need to not do that. My previous suggestion is useless for your problem.

You might try to open a problem in file in Virtual Dub Mod and see if the video and audio have different times. If they are different by a fraction of a second, that's OK, but if there is more than 1 second difference then there's a problem. You may need to use an audio editor to stretch or contract the audio as necessary so the time is the same as the video. We may have a guide on doing that. It could also be that the original video source had a delay in the audio and the version you have was made with no delay. That would cause it go to out of sync.

Sorry, I'm kind of new to this whole audio/video thing, but if there is a delay in the file wouldn't it play improperly on any source and not just the LaCinema?

I figured there must be some sort of conflict with the player and the file's audio file or codec.

Post a screen capture of GSpot when it has opened your problem file. It might help us to figure out what is going on. If the file plays OK on a PC and not on your player than the problem, whatever it is, is with the player.

Audio delays are sometimes necessary with video for various reasons. Delays can be negative or positive.

I was thinking its something with the player too but its just odd that only a few files have the audio delay. Almost all of the files I have tried on the player work fine, just a couple don't. I really appreciate the help, even if its something I can't fix its driving me crazy as to what the culprit is.

I attached a screen shot, hope that helps.

[color=darkred]Hi to all, I am new to this site and I am asking for some advice about dvd formats for playback on my Lacie Classic. I have been transferring my dvd backups to the Lacie using vts files which play well. But at the end of each vts title it stops and i have to select the next title and press play.
Can anyone help please, ps I have been using dvd Fab or shrink.
Also when should I update their firmware .
Should I set the res setting to 720p or 1080i or 1080p for a Magnavox 106cm plasma via HDMI cable

    In anticipation many thanks.[ [/b]
    Always grateful

Hello, I'm also a newbie but own a Lacie Classic as you do. Perhaps we can help each other with our problems.
To solve your problem, it might be a good idea to use DVD Shrink, load your DVD and to create a backup while DEselecting the option "Create Video_TS folder" (or something similar). DVD Shrink will then create one file so you'll have continuous play (and no longer need to start each file individually). Hope this helps!
My question is, do you simply copy the DVD-files to your Lacie and play them as they are? And don't you experience any playback-issues with these files?

You need to open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the VIDEO_TS folder when using an external HDD player. If you open the first VOB file then players will only play that VOB and stop.

To Dirk, thanks to all for your suggestions. What I have done now successfully is to open preferences in DVD Shrink and untick slit vob files into 1gb chunks also to cut down the space used on the 1 TB HDD in preferences I go to custom size and set it to around oh.........2500 - 3000 mb and the result is 1 file at a reduced size that plays extremely well with very little loss of quality. This means If you are backing up a lot of your precious original movie collection then the smaller the size of the output means you can fit more on your HDD. Believe me it's not hard to fill 1TB with movies.
Thanks to all members, have a good one

Hi, another thread, LaCinema Max don´t play divx files if a subtitle file (srt, same name) is present. If I delete the subtitle file, the avi plays normally. Not only one, all the divx files. Any idea?

    Hi Jorge,
you can try downloading the FREEBIE Any Video Converter and run your file through it. Go to the audio options and select MP3 output. At the top set it to Customised AVI output.................its very easy to use and pretty self explanatory and the quality is very good , other than that there are subtitle convertors, maybe some other members can help
    Cheers to you
    Always grateful
