I just received my GPX8.5 portable dvd player PDL805 from Amazon and I am charging it now. While I was charging it I set down to read the instructions . NO WHERE in the instructions does it read 'HOW TO ' instructions for converting for Multi Regions. So I went back to Amazon and read some of the reviews on this product. One comment lead me here for help on setting my region. The other has me wondering if I'll be sending the unit back or not.
One review stated that the only way to view Region 2 is to have the unit hooked up to my TV, If this is the case the unit is totally useless to me and I will be sending it back. I re read the instructions (which I feel are not all that helpful) to see if this was in fact the case and I can't find an answer to this.
Please tell me if this is true or not.

Ok, so a few of you looked at my post but nobody replied, but that's ok. I think I solved my problem myself.
First I have to say that the specific model that I purchased has some nice features but horrible instructions. If I hadn't noticed the box I would have not of found the code conversion for the region changing. The paper instructions do not mention anything about it. Next it shows the buttons on the player and remote but doesn't explain how to use them , I know, you'd think it was self explanatory and for the most but it is, but what the heck is the 'TFT BUTTON' what does it do? Still working on that one. Then it doesn't explain charging the battery, like how long? how do I know when it's done charging? Will a green light come on when it's charged?
After I figured it was charged I set the code , which reset it's self twice. Then after 20 minutes of "This is a piece of sh@T" I thought I had it and put a regional 2 DVD in only for it to sit and do nothing. I tried a regional 1 DVD and it read it as 'error disc' I repeated this game for another 20 minutes until I was fed up with the whole thing and decided to ship it back . I settled down and thought I'd give it one more try, I had to be doing something wrong, right?
No, I was doing everything right . I found that if I pushed a little harder one the DVD when I place it into the player it would then work, but not every time. I have to play with it taking the disc in and out and re starting it. I don't think it's good to have to push the dvd disk in place so hard like I'm having to do in order to get the thing to work.
Plus and I find this a big plus, the thing is noisy. I can hear the motor running and it's worse with the head phones on.
My old DVD player isn't like this. I am calling the company Monday to see what they will do about this unit.
Anyone else buy this model? If so , did you have these problems?

Welcome to the forums. The reason nobody replied is two fold.
1) You posted on a weekend. Many experienced members of the forum don't reply or read posts on weekends.
2) I've never heard of this model and probably almost nobody here has either.
Portables can almost never be made region free. Hollywood doesn't want any manufacturers to make any players that can be made region free. If you found a code that actually works, it's almost a miracle. If you get rid of this player for a different model you may not be able to find one that can be made region free though. -
I know that they do in fact make Region Free Portable DVD players . This model is advertised as one and in fact it does work. I am just concerned on two issues I am having with the unit it's self . I have to really push the dvd in place firmly and the unit is a bit noisy when it runs.
I purchased this model online from Amazon . There were others that advertised being Region Free Portable DVD players , so I don't see it being a problem as to getting another. This one was not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. So I guess the rule applies "You get what you pay for" If needed I'll return it for the more expensive one.
I also have a region 2 dvd player hooked up to my TV, because I am a BBC comedy sitcom fan and in the States it's hard to find stations that will air my British shows. So I've bought all of my favorites on DVD'S from over seas.
I understand you may not have ever heard of this model ,but know that they do exist and they do make Portable Region Free units, now making them work is another issue LOL.....
I never gave it a thought that it was the weekend. That makes sense . Thanks for the Welcome!
