    Alright, I need a capture program that can do the following:
    -compress and save as avi, mpeg, or both, doesn't matter
    -compress audio using formats other than PCM, preferably mpeg layer-3
    -run at scheduled times

    AVI_IO has everything except it only supports PCM audio... argh! Any other suggestions?

    Try VirtualDub and you can download the program on this web site. Just select capture on the left.
