I think the image speaks for itself
Basically, I can't install the binaries and this is the error I am getting:
For some reason it's wanting to download and run rosetta to get something called gnutar to run. I have yet to install rosetta and do this yet. I feel like I shouldn't have to do this and that something else is going wrong.
Or am I supposed to be downloading Rosetta for this work?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays!

Rosetta used to be part of a default OS X install on Intel Macs. Until Mac OS 10.6 that is, then it became optional. (It is installed, but possibly not activated.) Mac OS X 10.5.x or earlier wouldn't show this error.
You'll need Rosetta to run pieces of program code that were written for PowerPC though, which ffmpegX apparently relies on.Last edited by Case; 11th Apr 2010 at 06:33.

It appears there is a PPC (not UB) gnutar inside the application package.

This directory doesn't exist for me:
andy$ ls /Applications/ffmpegX.app
ls: /Applications/ffmpegX.app: No such file or directory
Need a little help here.
(I'm a new Mac user, please bear with me)

Follow the directions on http://www.ffmpegx.com/download.html
Remember to copy ffmpegX from the disk image to your /Applications folder.
